A picture that makes me sad

Let me just start off by saying that I love this picture.
This is Brian's grandparents holding Sam as a baby. They are so sweet I consider them my own grandparents.
Brian's grandma was so excited when I first got pregnant. She asked me every time she saw me how I was, if it was a boy or girl, and if I was ready to have the baby yet. She was slowly starting to lose her memory but I just told her the same thing every time.
I had Danny and she just loved him. The first time he smiled was at her. She would sing to him in her cute little voice.
Then I was pregnant with Sam and she asked the same questions over and over again. She was so excited when he came. She loved to just touch him.
Chrismtas Eve 2008, Brian's grandma went to the hospital because of a stroke and from then on has never been the same.
She has no idea who any of us are. She never knew I was pregnant with Sarah. I know she would have loved her. She would have been so excited for a girl. This is one of the last pictures I have of her before her stroke. I miss her.
We still see her but it isn't the same.

A picture that makes me happy

Oh man. This picture describes my family so well. This was taken 5 years ago when I was pregnant with Danny. Brian and I went on a cruise with my family and we got our picture taken together. This just makes me laugh so hard. We have so much fun together. We are so sarcastic with each other. I love it. We have made it a tradition to do these pictures when we go on a cruise together.

Whatever tickles your fancy

I finally decided after years of my sewing machine not working to go get it looked at. Well it turns out I wasn't threading it quite right. Yes I am special.
Anyway I have been so excited to sew and I can't stop now.
I found a tutorial on a friends blog for a bubble skirt but didn't quite understand it so I called my friend, Kristin who is amazing at sewing and asked her to translate. She explained it to me and I made the skirt! You should have seen me as I was making it. I was so proud of myself. I showed it to Brian about 10 times trying to get him to scream with excitement but he wasn't quite that excited. I am learning that guys don't get that excited about sewing projects.

I thought this skirt would fit her in the fall but I tried it on her and it is already getting tight! It was so tight on her thighs that I had to bunch up the muslin (the fabric on the inside of the skirt) to go around her belly because it was too tight on her thighs.

My first project was this onesie. I cut out this fabric (on the left) and used wonder under to make it stick to the fabric. Then I looked at this tutorial to help me make the ruffles on the right. I changed it a little and finished the edges to make it look a little more polished. I also made a onesie with ruffles going all the way around but I forgot to take a picture.
I love to sew and it gives me such satisfaction to make things myself. I must say, though, that the time it took for me to do all of these things was a lot. I could never make a ton of these and sell them because I would NEVER see my kids. This is fun to do once in a while but I could easily get too consumed.

Favorite quote:

I have 2 quotes that I just love. The first one is from Marjorie Pay Hinckley

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with perfectly manicured fingernails.

I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.

I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing my neighbor's lawn.

I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children.

I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden.

I want to be there with the children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.

I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

Marjorie Pay Hinckley

I just love that.

The second one was in a frame hung up in the laundry room at my house growing up. It is just so sweet.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait 'til tomorrow
For children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
...I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Lost

Favorite t.v show
Do you know the date and time that you watched the first episode of your favorite t.v. show? I do.
September 27, 2005. About 10:00 p.m.
I borrowed the first season of lost from my sister and started watching the pilot episode.
I was 8 1/2 months pregnant.
In the middle of the episode I had an urge to go to the bathroom. Long story short, my water broke and I went to the hospital and delivered Danny.
Danny wouldn't sleep at night and I was so exhausted during the day that I would just sit and watch Lost with him in my arms. I could never get a nap in during the day so that was the only thing that made me feel better. This show got me through the many sleepless days and nights with Danny.
From that day on, I have been hooked. I LOVE this t.v. show better than any movie out there. This Sunday is the last episode of Lost and I am honestly so sad. The day I started this show was the day that I became a mom and my life was changed forever. Well actually it was the 28th by the time I had Danny but I will miss being shocked by what happens every week. I will also miss Desmond, he was my favorite. I can't wait for the season finale but I will be soooo sad when this is over. And Brian feels the exact same way I do.
We would also like to add Glee and the Office to the list.
I would like to add Private Practice and Parks and Recreation.
The 2 shows that I really wish were never cancelled are Arrested Development and Kath & Kim. Funniest shows EVER.

Favorite Movie

I don't even need to ask Brian what his favorite movie is. I know that it is Jurassic Park. I thought that was funny the first time he told me but it really is an amazing movie. Brian has a good explanation that I can't remember. Let's just say that Spielberg definitely raised the bar with that movie. But Brian has a top ten list of his favorite movies. He loves movies. He has decorated our theatre room with movie posters including this one.
As for me, I don't have a favorite movie. I don't know why. Ever since I married Brian I got really picky with movies. I do love Pirates of the Caribbean and Australia though. My favorite scary movie is Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn.

Brian's favorite song

Ok I was right with Dave Matthews Band. Brian's favorite song is called Number 41.

Favorite Song

Favorite Song
Wow. This is hard. I don't have a favorite song. My boys want to listen to Micheal Jackson every day and I love it. I feel like I am falling in love with his songs all over again. But MY favorite song today (it will probably change tomorrow) is
Airplanes by B.o.B (featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore)

Let's see, for Brian, I would say any song by Dave Matthews Band or John Mayer. He loves the coffeehouse station on satellite radio. Brian and I both love Broadway music too. My favorite would be Rent. Am I right Brian?

30 Days of Blogging

My SIL, Kellie posted this on her blog and I thought it looked fun so I am going to try it. Each day for 30 days I am going to write about something different. Since Brian will not blog I will also do it for him too. Brian, if you are reading this, I would much rather you post your own so that I don't have to ask you:) I would love it if everyone else tried this too.

Seven Years

Yesterday was the 7 year anniversary for Brian and I. A lot of our friends are just getting married or have only been married for a little while so it seems like a long time. We have had such a fun time together. I love spending time with Brian. I am so proud to be married to him.

So every year we do something big for our anniversary. Hawaii, New York, Deer Valley, Vegas are just a few of the places we have gone to celebrate. This year we stayed home with the kids. I was kind of sad that we didn't have a vacation planned like we usually do. Well, we did go to dinner and a movie but our actual anniversary was spent like this:

going to church and doing the music in nursery (which included running, jumping, leaping, stretching and then lying on the floor...I am intense...it is pretty much a boot camp for the little kids;)...but the lady from the stake primary loved it)

taking the boys to the park and playing in the sand

eating dinner with Brian's family

blowing bubbles and playing baseball with the boys (boys take up a lot of energy)

And one of my best anniversaries yet. I can't wait for many more.

Happy Mother's Day!

Wow I am a mother of 3. That is so crazy to me. I feel so lucky. I have the 3 greatest children in the world. I am so happy right now and life is so great. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I have really learned a lot about myself since I have become a mom.
I have always been felt like I wasn't the greatest mom because my house isn't spotless and I don't make gourmet meals for dinner all of the time.

Then I realized that in order to keep my house spotless all of the time or to be able to spend hours on dinner every night, I would have to spend less time with my kids. That is definitely not what I want. Don't get me wrong, I cook dinner almost every night and try to keep the house clean, but it isn't flawless. I want to be able to read with my kids, play hide and seek, let them help me cook, or whatever they feel like doing and if that means that my house gets a little messy then I am fine with that. I am learning to love the mom that I am and not compare myself to other moms. That was a big step for me.

Have I mentioned how much I love this girl? She is such an angel. She will sleep 13 hours at night. I just lay her down and eventually she falls asleep. Having a girl is so much fun!!

Why so serious?
Sorry I had to write that. He totally looks like the Joker. Maybe next time we make fruit smoothies, we will use a straw and not a spoon. Sam has been struggling lately with being a middle child but he also gets so happy and loves to dance and smile. He loves to make others smile. I love this guy and need to work on paying more attention to him. By the way, thanks Brian letting me get a Vita Mix blender!!!

Danny brought home this paper from preschool that his teacher had filled out about me. This is what it said:
My mom is prettiest when... she has red shoes on.
(I had red shoes on that day, I didn't think he noticed)

My mom's favorite food is... chicken and rice
(This is actually true, I love chinese food. We had pei wei the night before)

My mom's eyes are... blue

My mom likes to... play with me
(I love that)

She is happy when... she sees Sarah

My mom is... 20... years old

If my mom could go anywhere she would go... to dinner.

Her best friend is... me.

Her job is... to do everything.

I love my mom because... I love her.

Pretty funny. I love this guy.

Haha. The other night, I asked Brian to fold the laundry while he was watching tv and he said yes so I just piled it on top of him. He sat like this for a long time then decided to get the job done.

I couldn't love him more

So I just went in to check on Danny and for the 2nd night in a row, he has fallen asleep to Sam loudly playing with toys with the light on. He kept calling to me to make Sam go to sleep but I was feeding Sarah and wanted to wait till I was done.

He is such a patient boy. He (almost) always does what I ask him to do. Every morning when we go to the gym, he runs ahead and holds every door open because I have so much that I need to carry in. Then he holds the door open for everyone who comes in behind us. By the way, if someone holds the door open for you, SAY THANK YOU.

Anyway, I love you Danny. You make life so much fun and exciting. I am excited for tomorrow morning to watch you take Sam downstairs (like you do every morning), turn on Michael Jackson music videos, and dance and sing to them with Sam. I love that you have all of the dance moves memorized. I also love that after our talk about what Michael Jackson dance moves you do not repeat, you listened.
